Q: I hear that the broadhead has been through some changes. Could you tell me what they were and if the newest design makes my older model a thing of the past?
A: The older style will work just fine and I would not worry about a thing as far as them doing thier job.
We have been through a few stages with the head. They are working no diffrently now as they did in the begining except for a few slight changes. They still look for the most part the same, open the same and have the same 1.7" cutting diameter. They do however hold up better on a solid bone or rock. As mentioned before, they were breaking on hard hits because of the shape of the outer shroud having a cone to it. We had to shorten the tip to keep within weight limits in order to make the interior have a shelf to sit on and take the impact instead of the cone that caused breaks. Now "breaks" sounds bad but really isn't a huge issue. If they break on a rock then the head is unusable again like every head on the market. Rocks and broadheads don't go together. If it breaks on the bone, It doesn't fall apart or do anything to the integrity of the wound but simply makes it unusable for another shot. It will do all of the cutting and devastation as if it were not broke. No biggy in my oppinion as I would rather not shoot a mechanical again after it has been through an animal and earned its keep. The newer model is more durable and takes quite a bit more shock.
The latest development is simply that the O ring has been eliminated. the head has a micro fiber that goes through the center of the head, holding it in place as to not open in flight but open on contact. It does the same thing as the O ring but many do not like O rings and it also had more ability to be affected by extreme cold or heat. Not that it wouldn't work, but could become slower in deployment than the newer more consistant open.
Q: Will the Epek X-C3 work with all arrows?
A: Yes it will work with all arrows. There are a few rules to consider when getting arrows for the Epek Broadhead. The outer piece of the broadhead slips over the shaft of the arrow. It is best to get an arrow that fits under the shroud. If big arrows or a bolt are not an option, the head will fly, open and create a wound channel just as before but the pressure of the blades will rest on the shroud that could not slide over the arrow shaft and may make it unusable for a second shot without replacing the shroud. It will work however and do the same damage as the recomended sizes.
Q: How do I order the broadheads?
A: There are many online dealers including ordering them from our site. The best however is if you will get your local archery shop to order them and if they meet a minimum order, you could earn some heads for yourself.
Q: What makes me eligible for the free pack of broadheads in the photo contest?
A: Simply send us your photo with an attached explanation or testimonial of your success with the Epek X-C3 and you will be in the running. Please be sure to smile and take shadow free pictures, showing off your animal in a way that would not offend those who do not hunt. Clean off any blood, tuck in tongues and give the animal respect would be some helpful hints in helping you obtain free broadheads.
Q: My state does not allow "barbed" broadheads. Is the Epek X-C3 barbed?
A: No it is not barbed making for a missplaced shot to work its way out or to be retreived easily by pulling the arrow out as the blades roll over and out of the way.
